jPlaylist is a very small Java program designed to run on your PC. It creates a playlist in a format that is compatible with UIQ3 phones. There is no GUI. jPlaylist is run by right-clicking on music or playlist files and using the Open With function in Windows XP or Windows Vista (see below). Typical usage is that you have ripped a CD using (for example) Winamp and produced a playlist, which is an m3u file. This playlist may not be in the right format: specifically, it may not reference the ripped tracks in the location where they will be on the memory card of your UIQ3 phone. To work on M600, P990, W950, P1i phones, m3u file should contain tracks in the form:

D:\Music\(album name)\(track name).(suffix)

where suffix is either mp3, m4a or aac. For the W960 phone, the directory might be C:\Music.

jPlaylist will create a new playlist file, or edit an existing playlist file so that it works with UIQ3 phones.

Setting up jPlaylist

Open jPlaylist.txt using Windows Notepad. Edit the location of jPlaylist.jar, depending the directory where you have downloaded it. By default, jPlaylist will create playlists in ANSI format. To change to unicode, replace ‘ansi’ with ‘unicode’. Save, and rename to jPlaylist.bat.

Creating new playlist files

Make sure you have ripped your tracks so that the first characters of the filename are the track number. This is because jPlaylist will sort the track names, and you will want the tracks to play in the correct order. The first track should start ‘01…’, the second track ‘02…’ and so on.

Go to the directory with your music tracks. Right-click on any music file, select the Open With option, then Choose Program>Browse and navigate to jPlaylist.bat. Keep the ‘Always use the selected program…’ unchecked. Press OK, and the playlist will be created.

While this seems like a lot of effort, Windows will remember jPlaylist as a recommended program. In future, right-click on any music file, select Open With>jPlaylist and press OK. Easy

Editing existing playlist files

Right-click on your existing m3u file, select the Open With option, then Choose Program>Browse and navigate to jPlaylist.bat. Keep the ‘Always use the selected program…’ unchecked. Press OK, and the playlist will be updated.

While this seems like a lot of effort, Windows will remember jPlaylist as a recommended program. In future, right-click on the m3u file created from your CD ripping program, select Open With>jPlaylist and press OK. Easy
